At the Ottawa Headache Centre, treatment does not start with a prescription or a procedure. We are not here to "push Botox® and nerve blocks".
It starts with accurate diagnosis.
Headache disorders are diverse, overlapping, and often misclassified. The most important first step in effective treatment is understanding which headache disorder (or disorders) a person has, how it behaves over time, and how it affects their life.
From there, we develop a personalized treatment plan, tailored to each individual’s diagnosis, migraine pattern, prior treatments, and goals.
Taken regularly to reduce how often headaches occur, how severe they are, and how disruptive they become over time.
A dedicated injection program for patients with chronic migraine. We provide specialist-led administration of onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox®).
Cutting-edge targeted therapies (pills, injections, or infusions) that can stop migraine attacks or prevent them from happening.
Targeted injections used to calm irritated pain pathways in the head and neck. Often used for migraine, occipital neuralgia, and other persistent headache disorders.
Additional therapies tailored to specific headache conditions, including oxygen therapy, infusion treatments, and specialized interventions when needed.
Many people with headache disorders have tried multiple treatments without lasting benefit. Often, this reflects:
an incomplete or incorrect diagnosis
treatment choices that were not well matched to the headache type
lack of follow-up or adjustment over time
Our approach is diagnosis-driven and individualized. We aim to understand:
the type (or types) of headache you experience
frequency, triggers, and patterns
prior medication trials and side effects
medical history, lifestyle factors, and preferences
Treatment is then selected and adjusted over time — not applied uniformly.
Many advanced headache treatments require insurance approval or enrollment in patient support programs. Navigating coverage can be complex and time-consuming.
We support with:
insurance forms and prior authorizations
manufacturer support programs
coordination with pharmacies and infusion services
practical guidance around timing and follow-up
Our goal is to ensure that access and cost do not become barriers to appropriate care.
